YEREVAN, March 27. /ARKA/. Biometric passports will begin to be issued in Armenia approximately in the second half of 2026, said Arpine Sargsyan, the Armenian Interior Minister.

"Within the framework of a public-private partnership, significant work has been done to provide biometric services – the issuance of passports and ID cards. Based on the results of studying the international market and negotiations with suppliers, a tender document has been developed that meets international standards. The implementation of this will allow our citizens to not only access government services more efficiently, but also to travel with dignity and take advantage of preferential offers at the borders," Sargsyan said during the government hour in the National Assembly of Armenia.

According to her, a competition was held to select a contractor for the issuance of biometric passports, and the proposals of two out of three participants have already been reviewed. "They have passed the first stage, and their proposals meet the technical requirements. In the second stage, the financial component is being worked on. The name of the winning company will be announced on March 31," Sargsyan added.

The minister noted that an agreement will be signed with the winning company, and a one-year period will then be provided for the implementation of the infrastructure and other solutions. "According to forecasts, from the second half of 2026, we will be able to offer these services to our citizens," Sargsyan said.
