YEREVAN, March 2. /ARKA/. Construction on the central market in Yerevan is ceased and the surrounding areas are under strict control now, Yerevan municipality’s press office told ARKA News Agency on Friday.
The decision has been made by the city authorities.
According to Armenian media, MP Samvel Alexanyan has bought the market from Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of Prosperous Armenia party, to reconstruct it into another supermarket of Yerevan City chain of supermarkets.
Earlier, some non-governmental organizations demanded to stop construction and to discuss the matter with the culture ministry and the municipality’s urban planning council.
Municipality’s appropriate officials, following Mayor Taron Margaryan’s instruction, surveyed the situation personally and found out that the owner had launched the construction without a necessary permission in a clear breach of Provision N 154 of the Code on Administrative Offences.
The market built in 1952 is an architectural asset included in the books of historical monuments of Yerevan. -0---
