Number of foreigners receiving temporary residence permits in Armenia increased by 59% in the first half of 2026

In the first half of 2026, a total of 10,561 residence permits were issued to foreign citizens in Armenia, compared to 6,656 in the same period of 2025.

YEREVAN, August 24. /ARKA/. In the first half of 2026, a total of 10,561 residence permits were issued to foreign citizens in Armenia, compared to 6,656 in the same period of 2025. This represents a 59% increase in the overall number of applications, according to the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

Temporary residence permits were issued to 8,181 people. The majority of these were citizens of Russia, India, and Iran. Of the total, 6,085 people received temporary residence permits based on employment. Citizens of Vietnam, Iran, China, and India led the number of applications for temporary residence permits based on employment.

Permanent residence permits were issued to 2,085 people. Russian citizens also led the way here, with 1,233 people, followed by citizens of Georgia and Iran.

295 people received special residence permits. In this category, the largest number were citizens of Syria, Russia, and Iran.

The department stated that, overall, the statistics show a significant share of Russian citizens among foreigners who received residence permits in Armenia, especially among those holding permanent residence permits.
