General architect of Yerevan speaks about construction of new subway station

The project of a new station of the Yerevan Subway will be ready before the end of this year, Yerevan General Architect Arthur Meschian said Wednesday at a news conference. Meschian stressed that the construction of the subway station needs considerable investments, and the municipality intends to attract from the private sector.
YEREVAN, May 15. /ARKA/. The project of a new station of the Yerevan Subway will be ready before the end of this year, Yerevan General Architect Arthur Meschian said Wednesday at a news conference. Meschian stressed that the construction of the subway station needs considerable investments, and the municipality intends to attract from the private sector.
In his words, negotiations are being held now with builders, whose names will be released to public later. The city authorities expect that builders will express interest in construction of a mall near the subway station.
It was reported earlier that the business program which is now considered by the municipality consists of two components – construction of a mall near the station in Yerevan’s Ajapnyak area and reconstruction of dilapidated residential houses located nearby.
The 525-meter way to the new station is planned to go through a tunnel. The construction of this tunnel was launched yet in Soviet epoch and remained unfinished. The tunnel junction will be modernized as well.
The Yerevan Subway was commissioned in 1981. Now it has ten stations. The total extent of all the ways is 13.4 kilometers. -0---
