YEREVAN, July 17. /ARKA/. GeoProMining (GPM), a diversified international group of mining companies, said it will participate in construction of a church in Ararat town where Ararat Gold Extracting Factory is located.

Construction of Surb Amenaprkich church (Saint Savior) was set in motion in December of 2011, and the lighting ceremony as well as laying a symbolic stone in the foundation of the church were held this summer.

In general, the estimated cost of the construction is 165 million drams. As of now GeoProMining and Ararat Municipality have contributed 20 million drams each. The construction is due to finish in autumn of 2014.

“The most important thing for us is people and staff. That is why we inject means into social programs which are directed not only to backing the population of the communities where we operate, but also educating new professionals. We also attach great importance to moral and social health of the society, hereby, we understand the importance of building a church in Ararat,” CEO of GPM Vladimir Kozlov said in a statement.

On his side, Ararat Mayor Abraham Babayan noted that the town has a number of unresolved issues, and GeoProMining company is one of the very few which supports not only economic sector of the town but also the communities and social sector.

“Its programs vary from supporting sanitary cleaning of the town, as we witnessed today, to spiritual life of our community. The town actually needed churches, as while growing as an industrial town during the Soviet era, Ararat had a lack of churches,” he said.

GeoProMining company was founded in 2001. Its enterprises are located in Russia, Armenia and Georgia. GPM Group obtained the shares of Agarak Copper and Molybdenum Combine in December of 2007. —0--
