YEREVAN, October 29. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Malkhas Jazz Band will give a concert in Yerevan’s Aram Khachaturyan Concert Hall on November 3, Levon Malkhasyan (Malkhas), a prominent Armenian jazzman and composer and the lead of the band, told Novosti-Armenia.

“This concert as well as any jazz event in Armenia this year is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Armenian jazz,” he said adding that classic jazz pieces of Armenian and American composers will be performed.

“Jazz is improvisation and it will depend on performers’ mood on this particular day,” Malkhasyan said.

Levon Malkhasyan is a virtuoso pianist, who has given concerts in more than 40 countries.
After the Soviet Union’s collapse he was invited to Poplavok Café as art director, and he created jazz club atmosphere in the cafe. The best Armenian musicians felt honored to perform in Poplavok and foreign guest musicians held their jam sessions here. Chick Corea and Igor Butman were among them.

In 1998, Malkhasyan established Jazz Art organization, which organized the first international jazz festival in Yerevan, which hosted jazz bands from the United States, Russia, France, Slovakia, Sweden and Georgia.

In 2003, Levon Malkhasyan was awarded the tile of the Honorable Citizen of Yerevan. -0-------
