Only 7-8% of Armenians vaccinated against influenza A – ex-health Minister
YEREVAN, January 10. /ARKA/. Only 7-8% of Armenia’s population is vaccinated against influenza A, said Armen Muradyan, the former Minister of Health, currently Rector of Yerevan State Medical University.
“This flu is no less dangerous, as it causes 200-300 thousand deaths worldwide each year. In the future, this could become a major global issue. This needs to be taken into account,” Muradyan stated on Armenia’s Public Television.
He emphasized that Armenia needs to develop a new culture, not only regarding vaccination but also in promoting a healthier lifestyle in general.
“We mostly begin to focus on restoring our health only at the final stages of illness,” Muradyan pointed out.
He also noted that the resources of Armenia’s healthcare system are currently geared towards this, due to the limitations of the available resource base.-0-
