Passenger traffic through Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport up 12% in 2016

Passenger traffic through Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport grew 11% in Jan-Dec 2016, compared with the same period a year before, to 2,105,540 people, the press office of Armenia’s General Department of Civil Aviation reported on Friday.

YEREVAN, January 13. /ARKA/. Passenger traffic through Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport grew 11% in Jan-Dec 2016, compared with the same period a year before, to 2,105,540 people, the press office of Armenia’s General Department of Civil Aviation reported on Friday.
Passenger traffic in Armenia’s airports grew 10.4% in 2016, compared with the previous year.
“As expected, passenger flow in Zvartnots Airport exceeded 2 million in 2016 hitting the record high since 1992,” the department says in its press release.
In December 2016, Zvartnots recorded a 23.4% year-on-year passenger traffic growth.
As many as 1,048,153 passengers have departed from the airport and 1,057,387 arrived here over 2016 against 944,373 and 935,294 respectively in 2015.
According to the press release, 18,269 tons of cargoes went through Zvartnots Airport in 2016 – 80.4% more than in 2015.
The airport operated 9,266 takeoffs and landings in 2016 – 2.8% more than in 2015.
“Passenger traffic in Gyumri’s Shirak Airport, which resumed operating after an eight-month break, was recorded at 12,421 people and freight traffic at 4.2 tons, and in December alone, passenger traffic stood at 2,557 people,” the press release says.
Zvartnots Airport is being run by the Armenia – International Airports in accordance with a 30-year concessional management agreement sealed with Armenian government in 2001.
The company belongs to American International Airports, an Argentine company owned by Eduardo Eurnekian, an Argentine entrepreneur of Armenian descent. --0---
