IDeA, EU embark on tourism development program in Armenia’s Dilijan

Initiatives for Development of Armenia (IDeA) Foundation, the Armenian ministry of territorial administration and development and the EU Delegation signed Wednesday a grant agreement to develop Dilijan and nearby communities, the press office of IDeA reports.

YEREVAN, December 15. /ARKA/. Initiatives for Development of Armenia (IDeA) Foundation, the Armenian ministry of territorial administration and development and the EU Delegation signed Wednesday a grant agreement to develop Dilijan and nearby communities, the press office of IDeA reports.  

The agreement was signed by IDeA Foundation CEO Edgar Manukyan, Territorial Administration and Development Minister Davit Lokyan and Head of EU Delegation to Armenia Piotr Switalski. 

The key aim of the project is to support development of tourism in Dilijan and adjacent communities. The project will open room for creating new jobs and new business opportunities. It will also promote economic development in Dilijan and Tavush province, as a whole.     

The project budget is about EUR 1,195,000, of which EUR 780,000 is the grant to be provided by the European Union, EUR 195,000 will come as national co-financing, and EUR 140,000 as IDeA Foundation co-financing. The project is designed for two years. It will be launched in February 2017.

IDeA Foundation will undertake a market research as part of the program. An information center will be opened for tourists, new tourist routs will be developed and seminars and master classes will be conducted to improve things in tourism industry.    

This project is one of the seven grant programs being implemented as part of the Pilot Program of Regional Development financed by the European Union and the Armenian government. --0---
