Pashinyan reveals why air tickets to and from Armenia are so expensive

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan revealed today the reason behind high prices for air tickets, which local travel agencies claim is the main cause scaring many foreign tourists away form visiting the country.
YEREVAN, February 12. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan revealed today the reason behind high prices for air tickets, which local travel agencies claim is the main cause scaring many foreign tourists away form visiting the country.
Pashinyan said when he was in Davos earlier this year to attend the World Economic Forum, he spoke with Martin Eurnekian, who runs Corporation America, a company that manages Armenia’s Zvartnots and Shirak airports.
‘We had a sincere conversation and he said the main reason why air tickets to and from Armenia are so expensive is the price for jet fuel.
"We are now looking into this issue to find out what can be done to improve the situation. It is possible that high fuel price is a result of monopolistic mechanisms, although I cannot say for sure that this is the way it is," said Pashinyan .
Pashinyan said this is a serious issue that needs to be studied, since the decline in prices for air tickets will be an incentive for the development of tourism.
Corporation America belongs to the Argentinean entrepreneur of Armenian origin Eduardo Eurnekian. In Armenia, the company's fields of activity include aviation (concession management of Zvartnots and Shirak airports), agriculture and the banking sector. -0-
