YEREVAN, June 15. / ARKA /. The first train with 65 Armenian holiday-makers has set out today from Yerevan to Batumi, a popular Georgian resort on the Black Sea coast. The train is run by the South Caucasus Railways (SCR), a Russian-run company operating Armenia’s railroads.

According to Gagik Movsisyan, the head of passenger transportation department of the company, tickets can be obtained at the railway stations in Yerevan, Vanadzor, Gyumri and Armavir, as well as online by visiting the company’s official website at  www.ukzhd.am

He said the prices of tickets have changed slightly compared with 2014. Depending on compartment type  the price of a two-way ticket ranges from 13,000 to 29,000 drams.  According to Movsisyan, the compartments meet all the technical, health and safety requirements. Some of them offer free Wi-Fi .

According to the company’s statistics, the number of passengers transported by these trains have surged 538% in 2014 when compared to 2008 to 46,300 people. Gagik Movsisyan said also the Saturday flooding in Tbilisi that caused huge damages to Georgia’s capita city will not affect the travel because the railway runs away from the center of the calamity.

The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. -0-
