Visa-free travels between Iran and Armenia to boost relations

The Armenian-Iran deal scraping visa requirements for the nationals of both countries will strengthen Armenia’s relations with Iran, the head of the department of Iranian Studies at Yerevan State University Vardan Voskanyan said today.

YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. The Armenian-Iran deal scraping visa requirements for the nationals of both countries will strengthen Armenia’s relations with Iran, the head of the department of Iranian Studies at Yerevan State University Vardan Voskanyan said today.

Speaking to a news conference he said the abolition of visa requirements between Armenia and Iran is an indication of high level of trust between the nations.

He said this process is important not only from a political point of view, but also from economic, because, the measure creates a new level for businesses and entrepreneurs.

"I am talking about travel agencies as well as people wishing to conclude trade agreements. They can visit the counties without any hindrance and get acquainted with the situation," he said.

Speaking about the development of the Armenian-Iranian relations in general, Voskanyan stressed the importance of the current visit to Tehran by Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian and his meeting with Iranian president Hassan Rouhani.

"In fact, Rouhani once again pointed to the fact that Armenia is an important partner for Iran. It was said that our country is an important link between the Black Sea to the Persian Gulf, ‘said Voskanyan. 

The planned Armenian-Iranian deal allows Iranians to stay in Armenia visa-free for up to 90 days within 180 days .The same arrangement applies to Armenians visiting the Islamic Republic.

According to Armenian government data, 144,000 Iranians visited Armenia last year, up by 24 percent from 2014. -0-
