YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Assembly has approved today in the first reading a set of amendments to the law on the targeted use of the environmental tax paid by companies. According to the changes, the environmental tax paid by mining companies, whose operations have harmful impact on the communities, will be transferred to the latter's budgets. The money is to be used for implementation of targeted projects.
Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Lilia Shushanyan noted that the current law fixes the names of companies that pay this tax, but this is unacceptable. Therefore, it is proposed to remove them.
She said communities will have to publish their projects on the regional administration’s website in advance.
By another amendment, the government will have the right to establish payment procedures for communities or settlements. That is, a procedure will be established according to which, if there are several communities affected, the relevant distribution rules will apply, she said.
This law applies to the Armenian Copper Program smelter (currently idle), the Ararat cement plant and Hrazdan Cement Corporation, the Yerevan Alabaster plant, the Yerevan and Hrazdan Thermal Power Plants, as well as the Tsentrolit metallurgical enterprises in Charentsavan t and Pure Iron Plant and Armenian Molybdenum Production in Yerevan.-0-
