ADB country director for Armenia assesses impact of Trump Tariffs on Armenian economy

YEREVAN, April 10. /ARKA/. Don Lambert, Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Armenia, assessed the impact of the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on the Armenian economy.
"We conducted a preliminary analysis of the impact of the tariffs on Armenia. As for the direct impact, the ADB believes it will be limited for two reasons. First, historically, Armenia's trade volume with the US is small compared to its total trade. The US is not Armenia's main trading partner," Lambert said during the presentation of the ADB's Asian Development Outlook 2025 report.
Second, as he pointed out, the tariffs for Armenia are set at 10%, which cannot be compared to those imposed on other countries.
"As for the indirect impact, it is very difficult to quantify. These tariffs will affect so many of Armenia's main trading partners that it is hard to assess their impact on the external economic environment," Lambert added.
According to him, this includes the potential impact on the European economy, which will also affect Armenia.
On April 5, US President Donald Trump introduced new mirror tariffs on imported goods from 221 countries, including Armenia.
