At a meeting on Thursday, the Armenian government decided to allocate 15.65 billion drams for capital construction and repairs of roads and transport facilities in the country.
YEREVAN, August 6. /ARKA/. At a meeting on Thursday, the Armenian government decided to allocate 15.65 billion drams for capital construction and repairs of roads and transport facilities in the country.
According to David Khudatyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia, the total length of roads on which work is planned is 63.5 km.
According to him, these include interstate, national, and local roads.
"Previously, 3.7 billion drams were allocated for medium-term repairs of 76.4 km of roads, as well as 1.6 billion drams for the repair and major repairs of 10.6 km of roads leading to cluster schools. Work is already underway on some of the sites," Khudatyan said.
Commenting on the road situation, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that traffic congestion on interstate highways has become a serious problem for the country's road infrastructure.
"New roads are being built, which is necessary for economic development and improving living conditions. At the same time, a serious problem exists: traffic congestion on interstate highways has already become commonplace," Pashinyan said.
He stated that a quick solution to the problem by expanding road infrastructure is impossible, as the number of vehicles exceeds the capacity of existing roads.
"We must move in line with the adopted strategy. Several options for resolving transport issues are being discussed. Work in this area will begin soon, and as implementation progresses, it will become clear which option is most effective," the prime minister said. ($1 - 366.14 drams)
