In Armenia, the birth rate decreased by 2.4% and the death rate by 4.4% in January-July 2026, compared to January-July 2025. This is according to data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia (Armstat).

YEREVAN, September 7. /ARKA/. In Armenia, the birth rate decreased by 2.4% and the death rate by 4.4% in January-July 2026, compared to January-July 2025. This is according to data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia (Armstat).

Birth Rate

In the first seven months of 2026, 17,096 babies were born in the country, while in the first seven months of 2025, 17,523 were born.

Moreover, 203 stillbirths were registered during the reporting period, which is 14.7% less than in the same period in 2025.
The population viability rate—the ratio of births to deaths—was 118% in January-July 2026, compared to 115.7% for the same period last year.

Mortality

In January-July 2026, 14,484 people died in Armenia, compared to 15,143 for the same period last year.

More than half of those who died (50.9%, or 7,372 people) died from circulatory diseases. This figure is 6.5% lower than in January-July 2025.

Neoplasms are the second leading cause of death (22.2%, or 3,209 people, an increase of 8.7%). Other causes of death included respiratory diseases (9.7%, or 1,410 people, a 10% decline), other diseases (5.7%, or 824 people, a 15.7% decline), diseases of the digestive system (5.3%, or 764 people, an increase of 5.1%), external causes (3.5%, or 510 people, a 3.4% decline), diseases of the endocrine system (2.1%, or 307 people, a 5% decline), and infectious and parasitic diseases (0.6%, or 88 people, a 51.6% decline).
