YEREVAN, November 19. /ARKA/. Armenia is interested in re-opening of Abkhazian railway to have opportunity to use it, Armenian Prime-Minister Tigran Sargsyan said at his meeting with members of Club of Editors-in-Chief of CIS and Baltic countries and Georgia Friday.
Rail freight transport is cheaper, and many industries are interested to reduce transportation costs and increase profits, he said adding that the country’s economy will benefit from it.
Late October, the new Georgian Minister for Reintegration Paata Zakareishvili said that Georgian authorities are willing to reopen rail connection with Russia in the framework of “de-isolation of Abkhazia”. Re-operation of the Abkhazian-Georgian section of the railway is of strategic importance to Armenia as it is the shortest and cheapest route to Russia. -0-
