Armenia says Crossroads of Peace project is favourable for European Union

YEREVAN, 23 January. /ARKA/. Armenia seeks to build closer economic ties with the EU and also wants to forge close economic co-operation with all countries in the region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said today, speaking at a panel discussion on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

‘Unfortunately, since independence we have found ourselves in a certain economic isolation, as our borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan were closed and remain closed to this day,’ he said.’

Pashinyan added prompted by global changes, Armenia has launched the Crossroads of Peace initiative.

‘This initiative will make transport communication in our region more efficient, create new opportunities for both Turkey and Azerbaijan, which will allow us to deepen cooperation with Iran and Georgia as well,’ Pashinyan said, Armenpress reported.

According to the prime minister, the project is also beneficial for the European Union, as new channels of communication between Armenia and the EU will appear in case of its implementation.

‘This is not only an economic issue, but also a serious security component, which is extremely important for comprehensive stability,’ he emphasised.-0-
