Armenian lawmakers ok changes in government’s structure
YEREVAN, May 8. /ARKA/. The National Assembly of Armenia gave Wednesday its final approval to amendments to the law on the government’s structure. My Step faction voted for the bill, while MPs of the opposition factions cast their votes against it.

The amendments propose to cut the number of ministries to 12 and the number of vice-premiers to two.
On March 7 the Cabinet approved its new structure. According to a relevant draft law, which is yet to be approved by the parliament, the government is composed of 12 ministries instead of the current 17. Under the bill, the Ministry of Culture and Sports is to be merged with the Ministry of Science and Education and called the Ministry of Science, Education, Culture and Sport.

The Ministry of Agriculture is to be merged with the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments and have a new name, not determined yet.
The Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources is to become part of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, which is to also oversee transport, water, civil aviation and state property management.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is to be divided and some of its functions are to be transferred to the Ministry of Territorial Administration. The ministry is to l oversee the high-tech sector, including digitization and the military-industrial complex.

The Ministry of Diaspora is to be reorganized into the office of the Chief Commissioner for Diaspora Issues to be overseen by Prime Minister. -0---
