YEREVAN, May 18. /ARKA/. CIS chairmanship is likely to be handed over to Belarus in 2013, Sergey Lebedev, chairman of the executive committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, said Friday in Minsk.

“He said that this offer had already been made to Belarus”, a spokesman of the committee quoted Lebedev as saying.

He said that in accordance with the schedule, the chairmanship was to go to Uzbekistan, but the country refused.

Ukraine that follows Uzbekistan in the list refused as well because it will chair OSCE in 2013.

Azerbaijan and Armenia that come next to Ukraine never chair the Commonwealth traditionally, RIA Novosti News Agency says.
It means Belarus will assume this duty, if wants. A decision is expected top be made after consultations. -0-
