YEREVAN, March 17. /ARКА/. The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border remains calm, according to a statement from the EU Mission to Armenia (EUMA).

“On March 16-17, EUMA deployed patrols to various locations along the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The situation remains calm and quiet, with no unusual activity observed,” the EU Mission to Armenia stated in a post on the social network X.

Earlier on Sunday, the Armenian Defense Ministry denied Azerbaijani reports that on March 16, at approximately 09:45, 18:35, and from 20:10 to 20:45, Armenian Armed Forces units had opened fire on Azerbaijani positions located in the southeastern section of the border zone.

About the EU Mission to Armenia

The EU Civilian Mission to Armenia (EUMA) was launched on February 20, 2023, as part of the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) with a two-year mandate. On January 30, 2025, the mission’s mandate was extended for another two years.

EUMA operates from six bases in Kapan, Goris, Jermuk, Yeghegnadzor, Martuni, and Ijevan. The mission’s objectives include stabilizing the situation in the border areas of Armenia, building confidence and security for people in conflict-affected regions, and providing conditions that facilitate the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan with EU support.
