French ambassador congratulates Armenians on Independence Day

France’s ambassador to Armenia, Jean-François Charpentier, congratulated the Armenian people on the 25th anniversary of independence.

YEREVAN, September 20. /ARKA/. France’s ambassador to Armenia, Jean-François Charpentier, congratulated the Armenian people on the 25th anniversary of independence.
"On September 21, Armenia celebrates the 25th anniversary of its independence. The people with a three millennia history that lost its statehood many centuries ago, has regained its place in the international community," his message, circulated by the French embassy, says.
Charpentier wished success to the Armenian people for the creation of a fair, secure and prosperous society.
"As the ambassador of France, wishing to activate the deep and ancient ties of friendship between our people, I congratulate the leadership of Armenia and its citizens", his message reads.
Armenia will celebrate the 25th anniversary of independence on September 21.. On this day in 1991 the Supreme Council of the republic held a referendum on secession from the USSR and the establishment of an independent state.
Some 99% of the citizens entitled to vote, cast ballots for independence. Formally the independence was proclaimed by the Parliament on September 23. -0-
