Raffi Hovannisian enters Armenian president’s residence

Raffi Hovannisian, a runner-up of the presidential election in Armenia and a leader of oppositional Heritage party, entered the President’s Residence to meet re-elected Serzh Sargsyan.

YEREVAN, February 21. /ARKA/. Raffi Hovannisian, a runner-up of the presidential election in Armenia and a leader of oppositional Heritage party, entered the President’s Residence to meet re-elected Serzh Sargsyan.
These minutes, hundreds of Hovannisian’s supporters are rallying in front of the President’s staff building shouting “Raffi is a president!”
Police is controlling the situation and the law enforcement bodies allowed the protesters to wait for Hovannisian nearby “Marshal Baghramyan” metro station.
Yesterday Raffi Hovannisian declared he and his supporters will be waiting for the incumbent to arrive at Liberty Square today for “voluntarily step-down.”
Earlier at a news conference, Heritage leader said he agrees to meet Sargsyan either privately or publicly.
On Wednesday, spokesman for Sargsyan Armen Arzumanyan stated the re-elect is ready to receive Hovannisian at any time the runner-up wishes.
Today’s meeting between Heritage leader and the re-elect will be private and no reporters will be allowed in.
Municipality authorized rally of Hovannisian supporters will be held on Liberty Square in Yerevan on Friday at 17:00.

According to the ballot preliminary count results from all 1,988 polling stations, Armenia’s incumbent president Sezrh Sargsyan won the re-election Monday with 861,378 votes or 58.64%. Raffi Hovannisian polled 539,674 votes or 36.74%, Hrant Bagratyan - 31,643 votes or 2.15%, Paruyr Hayrikyan - 18,093 votes or 1.23%, Andrias Ghukasyan - 8,328 votes or 0.57%, Arman Melikyan - 3,520 votes or 0.24% and Vardan Sedrakyan – 6,203 votes or 0.42%. -0-
