Ukrainian ambassador to Armenia denounces Crimean referendum

Ukrainian ambassador to Armenia, Ivan Kukhta, has denounced today the March 16 referendum in Crimea saying at a news conference in Yerevan that the referendum was held in violation of the Constitution of Ukraine.

YEREVAN, March 20. / ARKA /. Ukrainian ambassador to Armenia, Ivan Kukhta, has denounced today the March 16 referendum in Crimea saying at a news conference in Yerevan that the referendum was held in violation of the Constitution of Ukraine.
“In fact, what is happening now in Crimea is a gross violation of our constitution,’ he said.
"Ukraine's position on developments in Crimea is very clear. It coincides with the position of the international community, international organizations, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, NATO, which all stated that everything happening in Crimea is a violation of the Constitution of Ukraine,"said Kuhhta.
According to him, Ukraine is a peaceful state and is ready to negotiate with Russia expansion of the powers of the autonomous Crimea.
"I think that diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict have not been exhausted. The conflict must be resolved in a legal manner and in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, «said Kuhhta.
In a telephone conversation yesterday Armenian and Russian presidents, Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, described the referendum in Crimea as another example of people’s rights to self-determination through free expression of will.
The presidents also highlighted the importance of commitment to the norms and principles of the international law, first and foremost the UN Charter.-0-
