Armenia intends to expand infertility treatment program– health minister

YEREVAN, March 1. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Health Ministry plans to expand its infertility treatment program to include also women over the age of 35, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said during a government Q&A session in parliament today.
"We have been receiving applications and requests to expand the program, and we are definitely planning to do so. We will review the results of the first 6 months of the program and see how we will expand the program in the future," she said.
Avanesyan said that the decision to set the age limit was based on medical indications and effectiveness, since international experience shows that the older a woman is, the less likely she is to give birth, and the greater the risks to the mother's health.
"We took as a basis the indications of doctors in terms of the best age for childbirth in order to have good results and not harm women's health," she said.
Earlier, the Armenian government expanded the list of infertility program beneficiaries. Now all childless women under the age of 36 with primary infertility can benefit from the program.
According to Anahit Avanesyan, 251 children have been born in the country within the framework of this program, which has been operating since 2020 with government funding.-0-
