Government modernizes existing landfills

YEREVAN, January 4. /ARKA/. The Armenian government today approved a decision on modernization and improvement of landfills operating in eight districts of the capital Yerevan.
According to the government, the construction of new landfills will take a long time, and with this in mind it was decided to improve the existing landfills.
The largest landfill in Yerevan will be closed. A new one will be built with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. According to the plan, it will have to meet the EU standards.
Until then, the authorities intend to implement a project aimed at improving solid waste management in eight regions of Armenia. It includes zoning of the territory, as well as the creation of an effective institutional and management system. --0--
