Under a draft government-designed law, before switching to biometric passports, the old-style passports will be issued to citizens of Armenia with a validity period of two years, Deputy Chief of the Police Ara Fidanyan told lawmakers today.

YEREVAN, October 26. /ARKA/. Under a draft government-designed law, before switching to biometric passports, the old-style passports will be issued to citizens of Armenia with a validity period of two years, Deputy Chief of the Police Ara Fidanyan told lawmakers today.

According to Fidanyan, the switch to biometric passports is likely to take place at the end of 2022 or at the beginning of 2023 He said after the introduction of new passports, the validity of old passports will expire.

He said also that old-style passports with 2-year validity will be issued until the beginning of 2023 and after that only biometric passports will be issued with a validity period of of 10 years.

Fidanyan said that currently a little over than 2 million of old-styled passports are valid. --0--
