Over 100 billboards to be dismantled in downtown Yerevan

By the end of the year the Yerevan municipality is going to dismantle 106 downtown billboards because none meets the required standards, Araz Baghdasaryan, a municipality official overseeing exterior design and advertising in the capital city, said today.
YEREVAN, September 23. / ARKA /. By the end of the year the Yerevan municipality is going to dismantle 106 downtown billboards because none meets the required standards, Araz Baghdasaryan, a municipality official overseeing exterior design and advertising in the capital city, said today.
He said outdoor advertising is an integral part of the overall appearance of the city, and ‘in our opinion, it must be properly framed.
According to him, the standard size of a billboard in city centers across developed countries is 1.2 x1.8 meters. He said the advertisers agreed to dismantle large billboards at their own expense and replace them with standard size ones.
He said for each dismantled billboard the municipality will provide a more modern billboard, mainly in the form of scrollers, on which advertising signs follow each other. He said the advertisers will have to cover the cost of installing new billboards.
The first phase will include billboards on Sayat Nova, Abovyan, Tumanyan , Koryun, Amiryan, Tigran Mets streets and the second phase will begin in November when all large billboards in downtown will be dismantled. "The dismantling will be carried out at night hours for security reasons," he said. -0-
