YEREVAN, January 9. /ARKA/. The reduction of the QR code validity period for bus tickets from 7 to 4 days will ease the load on Yerevan's transport system, said Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan on Wednesday.

Grigoryan cited Berlin as an example, where a single ticket is valid for only 2 hours after purchase.

"If citizens want a long-term ticket, such as one for 30 days, they will either need to buy a package on the unified ticket system website, transport.yerevan.am, or purchase at least 10 tickets through the TelCell app/terminals," Grigoryan said at a press conference.

He also emphasized that the decision to shorten the ticket validity period was not made by TelCell.

"All the money goes to the city hall’s budget. TelCell has no financial interest in reducing ticket validity," the Deputy Mayor added.

Grigoryan mentioned that it will be clear tomorrow where and when Yerevan residents will be able to purchase transport cards.

He also reminded that starting February 1, 2025, the fare for public transport will no longer be 100 drams.

About the Unified Ticket System

Since January 1, a unified ticket system has been introduced in Yerevan, meaning cash payments are no longer accepted on buses, trolleybuses, and the metro. Several payment options are now available: paper single-use tickets with QR codes (from TelCell terminals), mobile apps, permanent travel cards, and bank cards.

The following fare packages are available:

  • 280 (300) dram – for a "90-minute" ticket (3 trips)
  • 880 (900) dram – for a one-day package (8 trips)
  • 4800 (5000) dram – for a weekly package (30 trips)
  • 8800 (9000) dram – for a monthly package (unlimited trips)
  • 23,600 (24,000) dram – for a 90-day package (unlimited trips)
  • 88,800 (90,000) dram – for a yearly package (365 days, unlimited trips)

The first figure is the price for online tickets, while the number in parentheses shows the fare for physical travel cards. When purchasing any fare package, citizens will be able to use all types of public transport, including buses, the metro, and trolleybuses.
