Radiation background in Armenia’s mines is within norms
YEREVAN, February 24. /ARKA/. Radiation background in Armenia's mines is within norms, Vardan Ayvazyan, an MP and a former environment minister, said Wednesday at a parliamentary session.
Some Armenian environmental organizations state that radiation background in mines exceeds the permitted norms and water sources are polluted by radioactive instances causing severe diseases among residents of these areas.
«I am stating officially that there are no fluctuations in radiation background in Armenia’s mines,» Ayvazyan said. «These are intrigues of particular organizations, which follow their own motives without inspections and without particular facts.»
In his words, all inspections and measurements of water and atmosphere gave no grounds for concern.
He stressed that inspections are conducted with an international organization's support.
«Not a single case of deviance from the permitted levels has been found out,» Ayvazyan said. --0----
