Freedom House urges Armenian PM to take concerns of media seriously
Freedom House welcomed the decriminalization of "grave insults" in Armenia and the government’s commitment to broad consultation on media legislation reflected in a Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the Armenian Government and CSOs, the organization said in a tweet.

On February 2 a court in the Armenian capital Yerevan delivered the first verdict on insulting a government official after the parliament approved last year a bill drafted by the pro-government lawmakers that criminalizes insulting government officials and other public figures.

Armenian parliament approves fivefold increase in maximum legal fines set for defamation.
By a vote of 72 to 30 and 2 abstentions the Armenian parliament passed Thursday in the first reading a bill that raises the amount of fines for insult and slander to 5 million and 10 million drams ($19,200), respectively.
