Armenia to toughen legislation on tax evasion

YEREVAN, February 2. /ARKA/. Speaking at a Cabinet session today Armenian prime minister Karen Karapetyan drew his ministers’ attention to the need to intensify steps for enhancing and promoting entrepreneurship.

According to him, for the economic development of the country the government bodies should form a favorable environment for the business community, as well as to carry out measures, which will ensure the smooth development of the business environment.

"In this aspect, it is important that the government initiate legislative changes to specify a Criminal Code article on malicious evasion of taxes, duties and other compulsory payments,' said Karapetyan.

Taking into account the need for consistent steps to ensure the development and promotion of entrepreneurship, Karapetyan  suggested that law enforcement authorities avoid as much as possible interference in the activities of economic entities. The prime minister also urged the law enforcers to resort to coercive measures, which may adversely affect the business or shake its foundations, only in extreme cases. -- 0--
