Company “Glendle Hills” performed instruction of president of Armenia by eliminating discrepancies in house construction in Gyumri

GYUMRI, July 9. /ARKA/. Instruction of Serzh Sargsyan, President of Armenia on elimination of discrepancies on house construction in Gyumri are implemented, said Vahe Almoyan, General Director of CJSC “Glendale Hills”.

CJSC “Glendale Hills” implements state program of house construction in Gyumri for people left homeless after the earthquake in 1988.  Serzh Sargsyan expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the quality of construction works during his visit to Gyumri in December 2009.

He was mainly dissatisfied with the internal decoration works of the apartments constructed in the district “Mush-2”. The organized urgent meeting with government members, Governor of Shirak region, Gyumri City Mayor, Chief Architect of Armenia and managers of  “Glendale Hills” in Gyumri.

“The detected deficiencies are eliminated and other works were added which were not envisaged in the initial phase, particularly”, said Almoyan.

"All this is done with the severe financial situation of the homeless people," Almoyan explained.

As for the construction of new buildings, he said, this year the design and the roofs of the houses will be constructed, and the interior decoration will be take place next year to prevent a recurrence of past deficiencies.

General Director of CJSC Glendale Hills also noted that to some extent, deficiencies in the construction can be explained by the fact that the company was told to make maximum use of local labor and suppliers.

According to him, next year another 37 units (32 in one area and 5 in another) will be commissioned.

The total cost of the program, which begun in 2009, is 39.3 billion drams.

For this year's construction works, 18.2 billion drams have been allocated.

The severe earthquake of December 7 1988 almost razed to the ground two cities of Armenia – Spitak and Leninakan (Gyumry today) - and over 100 villages.

Some other towns were partly ruined. The earthquake zone covered territory of 30,000 square meters.

The earth tremors were felt in Yerevan and Tbilisi. In the earthquake epicenter – city of Spitak – the magnitude reached 10, in Leninakan (Giumry) – 9 and in Kirovakan (Vanadzor) – 8.

The city of Spitak was utterly ruined.

According to the official information, 25,000 people were killed in the earthquake, 140,000 people became disabled and half a million were left with no roof on their heads. –0-
