Armenia’s Zvartnots airport may have 200,000 passengers more by end of year

Zvartnots international airport is planning to achieve an increase of 200,000 people in passenger traffic by the end of this year, compared to 2013, general manager of Armenia-International Airports closed joint stock company Marcello Vende said.
YEREVAN, May 19. /ARKA/. Zvartnots international airport is planning to achieve an increase of 200,000 people in passenger traffic by the end of this year, compared to 2013, general manager of Armenia-International Airports closed joint stock company Marcello Vende said.
Almost 1.7 million people used the airport in 2013.
Owing to the ‘open air’ government policy the passenger traffic doubled in the first four months of 2014, Vende said. Many companies started flying to Armenia and the current operators got a chance to increase the number of flights and reduce fares, Vende told reporters Saturday.
‘We believe it was an important step taken by the Armenian government. Air fares are dropping and people have betters chances for traveling. We are expecting more tourists’, Vende said.
On October 23, 2013, Armenia’s government approved a program on competitive and continuous air transport services in the country.
Zvartnots airport is run by Armenia-International Airports, a company owned by an Argentine citizen of Armenian descent Eduardo Eurnekian.
In 2001 the company signed a concession agreement with the government to run Zvartnots for 30 years. –0--
