Modernization of Meghri checkpoint on Armenia-Iran border will be completed in 2026

YEREVAN, March 13. /ARKA/. The modernization project of the Meghri checkpoint on the Armenian-Iranian border is proceeding according to the plan and will be completed in 2026, the director of Tana Energy Management contractor company Behzad Eslahchi said today at a meeting with officials of the Armenian State Revenue Committee (SRC).
Representatives of the State Revenue Committee emphasized the importance of the project and the need for cooperation on technical issues, SRC said.
An agreement on the modernization of the Meghri checkpoint was signed on January 27, 2023 between the State Revenue Committee of Armenia and Iranian Tana Energy Management Company, which won the international tender in December 2021.
The modernization of the checkpoint will cost about 18.5 million euros. The project is financed by an EBRD loan.
The contractor is to build a two-story administrative building with an area of 4,000 square meters with solar panels installed on the roof with an area of 1500 sq. meters.
The checkpoint will be equipped with rooms for detailed inspection of vehicles, X-ray inspection of trucks and customs clearance, as well as a site for X-ray inspection of passenger cars, a station for veterinary, sanitary and phytosanitary control and other infrastructure facilities at the entrance and exit with five lanes each on each direction. -0-
