Armenian president heads to Lebanon

YEREVAN, November 26. /ARKA/. Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan is to head to Lebanon today for a three-day official visit, the presidential press service reported.

Sargsyan is expected to meet with Lebanese president Michel Suleiman and chairman of the National Assembly Babih Berri. Sargsyan will also have meetings with parliament members, the country’s premier and members of the Armenian community in Lebanon, says the report.

Armenian president will visit Antelias near Beirut, residence of Kilikian Catholicos of Armenian Apostolic Church, and will meet with Kilikian Catholicos Aram A.

Sargsyan will talk to the faculty and students of four leading universities of Lebanon at Haykazyan Unviersity. 

Sargsyan will attend the opening of cultural center and reconstructed building of Matenadaran manuscript museum, which is devoted to 500 years of the first Armenian printed book “Urbatagirk”. 

A number of documents are expected to be signed for enhancing Armenia-Lebanon cooperation in various fields.

More than 100,000 Armenians live in Lebanon today; Armenian Lebanese community is believed to be one of the most organized Armenian communities in the world.

There are Armenian schools, colleges and a university (Haykazian) in Lebanon.

Armenian community holds two ministerial posts in the current Lebanese cabinet.-0-
