YEREVAN, July 13. /ARKA/. Employees of several companies owned by Gagik Tsarukyan, president of Multi Group and leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, are holding protests on Monday morning demanding the reopening of their sealed facilities.
Tsarukyan was arrested for two months on July 7 in connection with a criminal case on charges of fraud and large-scale money laundering.
Specifically, protesters at the Multi Stone stone processing plant in Abovyan are demanding the immediate reopening of the plant and an end to the forced shutdown.
Protesters announced their intention to head to the Investigative Committee building. They also announced their intention to block the Yerevan-Sevan highway if the plant is not reopened.
Employees of the Yerevan Ararat Brandy-Wine-Vodka Factory, the Multi Grand Hotel, and earlier on Saturday, the Multi Wellness sports and fitness complex, made similar demands, claiming they were unable to perform their duties due to the downtime.
Last week, the Ararat Cement plant, part of the holding, was suspended for several days. The plant had been closed since July 6, and on July 10, the Armenian Ministry of Economy announced the resumption of production.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Ararat Cement would soon be transferred to state ownership, and a state manager would be appointed.
