YEREVAN, February 3. /ARKA/. Hayk Gevorgyan, 45, a well-known journalist and the editor of Haykakan Zhamanak daily newspaper, was arrested Friday morning for fleeing the scene of a traffic accident after breaching traffic rules, Novosti-Armenia news agency quoted Ashot Aharonyan, spokesman of Armenian Police Department, as saying.

According to some media outlets, Gevorgyan was taken in Nubarashen jail. On-line media outlets say he has been at large though wanted since January 23.
The police promised to release additional information later.

This is not the first case of prosecution of the newspaper’s personnel. Nikol Pashinyan, the chief editor of the daily, was tried and convicted over political unrest in March 2008, but amnestied in 2011. -0-
