YEREVAN, July 6. /ARKA/. Starting July 6, approximately 18,000 drivers in Armenia will be able to renew their driver's licenses without re-examinations. This regulation applies to citizens whose driver's licenses were revoked after January 1, 2020, when the country introduced a penalty point system for traffic violations.

According to Arman Chilingaryan, Deputy Chief of the Patrol Police Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, only those drivers whose driver's license suspension period had already expired as of July 6 will be able to take advantage of this opportunity.

He added that these citizens will have one year to register on the Ministry of Internal Affairs' online platform and renew their driver's licenses without re-examinations.

This requires paying a state fee of 50,000 drams. Payment can be made both online and at Ministry of Internal Affairs offices. If the driver's license has also expired, an additional state fee will be required for the issuance of a new document.

After the driver's license is reinstated, citizens will be given a one-year probationary period, during which they will be assigned six points (instead of the usual 13).

"In the event of a repeat offense, in particular drunk driving, the driver will immediately lose five points and be suspended from driving for one year," Chilingaryan stated.

Ruslan Marandyan, Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Legal Department, emphasized that this right can only be exercised once and only after the suspension period has expired.

"This innovation will in no way affect road safety," he noted.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, approximately 18,000 people will be able to take advantage of this new opportunity as of June 30, 2026. Most driver's license revocations are related to driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as the exhaustion of demerit points.

However, the regulation does not apply to individuals whose driver's licenses have been revoked as part of criminal proceedings. Furthermore, it only applies to cases where the driver's license was issued in Armenia and the decision to revoke the license was also made by Armenian authorities.
