Armenia’s Culture Minister to head government commission for popular singer Flora Martirosyan’s funeral

Funeral service commission, set by Armenia’s head of government Tigran Sargsyan, will be in charge of the burial of the Armenian famous singer Flora Martirosyan, Culture Ministry said Tuesday.

YEREVAN, November 27. /ARKA/. Funeral service commission, set by Armenia’s head of government Tigran Sargsyan, will be in charge of the burial of the Armenian famous singer Flora Martirosyan, Culture Ministry said Tuesday.

Flora Martirosyan passed away on 20 November in the USA.

The commission chair is appointed Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan.

All the charges for the delivery of ashes and funeral ceremony will be covered by the State.

Flora Martirosyan, People’s artist of Armenia, was born in Armenia’s second largest city Gyumri on 5 February 1957.

Martirosyan studied at Gyumri Musial School after Armen Tigranyan. In 1973 she first appeared on TV and the radio. Later she moved to Yerevan and got admitted to State Conservatory.

In 1978 she became a laureate of an international festival in Hamburg. The song she performed “Tsovastghiks,” which was written by Ashot Ashugh, was recognized the best song of the year for 15 years. Martirosyan gave concerts in over 60 states worldwide.
In 1991 she left for the U.S. In 1995 she returned to Armenia and continued her musical career.

In 1991-2001 she was a headmaster at music school after Armen Tigranyan.

In 2002 she founded music schools after Komitas in Los Angeles and some other cities. The schools made the singer very popular within a very short period of time. 

In 2006-2007 she organized an All-Armenian international competition after Komitas that gathered over 2000 Armenians from Armenia and other states.

In 2007 she founded "Artists for Peace" charity Foundation uniting the world popular celebrities and Hollywood stars.
In the same year, Flora Martirosyan performed a solo concert in Glendale’s Alex hall. Such world celebrities as Sharon Stone and her brother Michael were also present at the concert. -0-
