Armenia to buy 10-meter long speed boats for Lake Sevan Water Patrol

YEREVAN, August 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian government will buy speed boats and jet skis for the Lake Sevan Water Patrol.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday that part of the money will be provided by Armenia’s international partners.

Overall, the government plans to acquire four ten-meter long speed boats for patrolling Armenia’s largest lake 12 months a year.

Interior Minister Vahe Ghazaryan noted that eight two-seater and four three-seater jet skis as well as drones and pickup trucks will be purchased for patrolling the lake’s entire basin.

The Water Patrol was created to ensure the safety and calmness of citizens in recreation areas, on the beaches and coastal zones, to rescue drowning people, to promptly join search operations in case of disappearance of citizens, as well as to prevent illegal fishing.

Lake Sevan is one of the most popular touristic attractions and vacation spots for Armenian citizens, especially during the summer season. The main source of fresh water in the region, the lake is one of the largest alpine lakes in Europe and Asia located in the heart of the Armenian highlands, at an altitude of 1914 meters.

The length of the lake from north-west to south-east is more than 70 km with water surface area almost 1.5 thousand sq. km. Twenty-eight rivers fall into the lake and one –The River Hrazdan-flows out of it. -0-
