Armenian Health Minister reports slowdown in West Nile virus spread

YEREVAN, September 19/ARKA/. The epidemiological situation in Armenia on cases of West Nile fever infection is easing, said Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan on Thursday.

According to her, over the past week there has been a significant decrease in the rate of spread of the virus.

"We are taking various preventive measures. This applies not only to West Nile fever, but also to measles," said Avanesyan at a briefing.

The Minister noted that over the past three weeks, only imported cases of measles infection have been recorded in the country.

“All local outbreaks have already been extinguished,” explained Avanesyan.

However, the work should be continued. Taking into account the cold weather and the imminent start of the season of acute respiratory diseases, the head of the Ministry of Health recommended that citizens get vaccinated.
