Armenians to have nine days to celebrate New Year and Christmas

Residents of Armenia will have 9 days to celebrate the New Year and Armenian Christmas, which is celebrated on January 6, Aram Araratyan, a spokesman for Armenian prime minister, said today.

YEREVAN, November 21. /ARKA/. Residents of Armenia will have 9 days to celebrate the New Year and Armenian Christmas, which is celebrated on January 6, Aram Araratyan, a spokesman for Armenian prime minister, said today.
In fact, the citizens will not be working from December 30, which is Saturday until January 7th inclusive. Under the current Law on Holidays and Anniversaries, the New Year and Christmas holidays are celebrated in Armenia from December 31 to January 6. The non-working days are December 31, January 1 (New Year) and January 6 (Christmas and the Holy Epiphany).
January 7 is also a day off since it is marked as the Day of Remembrance of the Deceased (Merelots), which follows each of the five Lord's Feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church - Holy Christmas and Baptism, Holy Resurrection, Transfiguration of the Lord (Vardavar), Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord.
The first working day in Armenia after the New Year and Christmas holidays will be Monday, January 8, 2018.
At the same time Araratyan noted that the government plans to make appropriate changes to the law and reduce the number of non-working days. The long holidays is opposed, particularly, by prime minister Karen Karapetyan. -0-
