New charges brought against former president of Armenia

YEREVAN, March 12. /ARКА/. A new criminal prosecution has been brought against a former president of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, the media reported citing the Prosecutor General's Office.
"On January 23, a new criminal prosecution was brought against Sargsyan on charges of embezzlement or misappropriation on an especially large scale, money laundering on an especially large scale, using his official position," the agency said in a statement.
The Prosecutor General's Office noted that a written undertaking not to leave the country has been chosen as a preventive measure against Sargsyan. The former president does not admit guilt in the act with which he is accused.
Earlier, in May 2024, the Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan acquitted Sargsyan in the case of embezzlement of state funds. He was accused of organizing the theft of almost 490 million drams from the state budget together with former Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan (who died in 2021 during the investigation), Ministry of Agriculture official Gevorg Harutyunyan and Flash company owner Barsegh Beglaryan (they were also acquitted).-0-
