SIS to provide additional information about charges brought against former deputy prime minister in coming days
YEREVAN, December 12 /ARKA/. A spokeswoman for Armenia’s Special Investigation Service (SIS), Marina Ohanjanyan,  said additional information about charges brought against a former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorkyan will be published in the coming days.

She said an investigator of the Special Investigation Service has asked for a court permission to arrest Gevorkyan. A Yerevan court began considering the request today but then postponed it until December 13. Earlier, Gevorkyan was charged under part 2 of Article 332 of the Armenian Criminal Code (obstruction of justice).

Citing a leaked U.S. diplomatic cable, the SIS charged earlier Armen Gevorkyan, a former top aide to former President Robert Kocharyan with obstructing justice in the wake of Armenia’s disputed 2008 presidential election.

More precisely, Gevorkyan is accused of pressuring a member of the Armenia’s Constitutional Court, Valeri Poghosyan, to uphold the official election results that gave victory to Serzh Sargsyan.

The case is part of the SIS’s investigation into the violent crackdown on the opposition demonstrations staged by ex-president Ter-Petrosyan demanding a rerun of the presidential ballot. Eight protesters and two police officers were killed as a result. -0-
