Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian has reached the World Cup final, defeating Vachier-Lagrave of France in the semi-final Armageddon game in Tbilisi, Georgia on Thursday.

YEREVAN, September 22. /ARKA/. Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian has reached the World Cup final, defeating Vachier-Lagrave of France in the semi-final Armageddon game in Tbilisi, Georgia on Thursday.
In the Armageddon game, a player with black pieces gets four minutes to white’s five and needs only a draw to be adjudged the winner.
The chess.am reports that Aronian played with white pieces and only a victory would allow him to reach the final. Aronian beat the French chess player Maxim Vachier-Lagrave, despite the fact that everything went to a draw. In the final, Aronian will play with the winner of the second pair Liren Ding.
Having made his way to the World Cup final, Aronian has qualified for the eight-man candidates tournament aimed at finding the challenger to Magnus Carlsen in the next World championship title match. -0-
