Approximately half a million of Armenian tourists visited Georgia in 2010, Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili said Saturday in Yerevan during a ceremony to award winners of the first Armenian-Georgian-school competition.

YEREVAN, January 24. / ARKA /. Approximately half a million of Armenian tourists visited Georgia in 2010, Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili said Saturday in Yerevan during a ceremony to award winners of the first Armenian-Georgian-school competition.

"We are doing everything possible to bring closer our countries and strengthen our bilateral relations", Saakashvili said

According to the president of Georgia, the two countries should enhance not only the economy but also their intellectual capacity. He urged also young people in Armenia and Georgia not to leave their countries, to stay at home and contribute to their progress..

The Georgian President also expressed confidence that the next Armenian-Georgian school competition will be held in Georgia.

"I am confident that we have to compete only for the prosperity of our countries, and I also believe that Armenia and Georgia will be always thinking of future hand in hand, as our future lies on the friendship of our peoples," Saakashvili said.

The competition involved 60 students from Armenia and Georgia, who competed in mathematics, physics and computer science (with 10 participants from Armenia and Georgia for each of the three subjects). The idea of holding the competition belongs to the presidents of two countries. The Armenian team included students from different regions of the country, and the Georgian team included also ethnic Armenians living in that country. -0-
