YEREVAN, March 5. /ARKA/. According to the French ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lacote, the Francophone month in Armenia to run from March 12 to April will feature a long string of events embracing cinema, music, theatre and gastronomy.
Speaking at a news conference the ambassador emphasized the month of Francophone in Armenia in terms of popularization of the French language, spoken by over 274 million people around the world. In his words, this number is supposed to grow to 700 million by 2060.
“We want this one month to become a holiday for lovers of French language and culture,” noted the ambassador.
"The program of events will start with the opening of the Second Festival of Francophone Films at the Moscow cinema, organized jointly with the embassies of Switzerland and Canada. The festival will feature modern films in French produced in 2013-2017," Lacote said.
The ambassador said the gastronomic events will include the visit to Armenia by famous French chef of Armenian origin Sonia Ezgulian and the designer-illustrator Guillaume Long on March 19-22.
The two will hold culinary and art seminars in Yerevan, and on March 21, Ezgulian will take part in the "Goût de France" (Taste of France) event that will bring together about 200 chefs from five francophone capitals.
Also, on March 20, there will be a French language competition, the winners of which will receive interesting prizes, while the first-place winner will receive a ticket to France.
On March 30 and 31 Armenia’s second largest town of Gyumri will host the Second National Theater Festival of Francophone in Armenia “10 out of 10.” -0-
