CSTO secretary general to visit Armenia

Secretary General of the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Yuri Khachaturov will be visiting Armenia August 28-30, the press secretary of the CSTO Vladimir Zaynetdinov said.

YEREVAN, August 28. /ARKA/. Secretary General of the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Yuri Khachaturov will be visiting Armenia August 28-30, the press secretary of the CSTO Vladimir Zaynetdinov said.

He said the trip is part of a series of visits to the CSTO member states to discuss preparations for the session of the Collective Security Council, the joint meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defense Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils, scheduled to be held in autumn 2017 in Minsk, Belarus.

During the visit of Yuri Khachaturov will have meetings with Armenian President  Serzh Sargsyan , Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan and the leadership of the country's parliament. 

Khachaturov took his duties on May 2, 2017, replacing the Russian-led alliance’s longtime secretary general, Nikolay Bordyuzha. Khachaturov served in the Soviet army before joining Armenia’s newly established armed forces in 1992. The 64-year-old general was the chief of the Armenian army’s General Staff from 2008-2016. He served also as secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council before taking up as CSTO secretary general.-0-
