YEREVAN, February 16. /ARKA/. The deputy head of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan has ruled out “maydan” in Armenia.
Ashotyan said it is not only the state power and legality, but also common sense of the Armenian people that make him feel confident about this.
Speaking on Thursday at a meeting of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, president Serzh Sargsyan criticized harshly the leader of Prosperous Armenia party tycoon Gagik Tsarukian and said Tsarukian, as a political actor, is an evil for the country. The president signed a decree withdrawing Tsarukian from the national security council due to his systematic failure to attend the council meetings. The president also instructed to look into cases of the tycoon’s absence in the parliament sessions and the rumors about his tax evasion.
The leader of the Prosperous Armenia, in turn, said the reason for the president’s statements is his refusal to contribute to the reproduction of the political power through a constitutional reform. In particular, the tycoon said he refused to become a president after the country turns to parliamentary form through constitutional amendments.
"The person, who violated the constitution, will be punished. We are a democratic state, which does not mean permissiveness though,” Ashotyan said adding no one will be allowed to try to benefit from people’s problems.
In speaking about the danger from tycoons’ taking the rains, Ashotyan referred to Ukraine’s case.
“Ukraine has showed what happens after tycoons take the rains”, the deputy head of the ruling party said.
According to some data, 50,000 people have been killed in Ukraine so far, as inter-clan clashes occurred, and political ambitions of tycoons were not restrained, Ashotyan said.
Three-million Armenia cannot afford this, hence legal and proportionate measures will be taken for prevention, he said.
The deputy head of the ruling party also said tycoons are not able to fight against monopolies and be democratic. Today’s mission is to disinfect the political field and get rid of parts that have nothing to do with politics, the politician said.
According to Ashotyan, the presidential statements have set a political agenda with civilized norms and values considered as priority.
Prosperous Armenia is the second largest force in the parliament controlling 36 seats. It was part of coalition governments from 2007 to 2012. –0--
